And remember, just a month earlier WPC held its Qi Off-cycle Meeting in Beijing for the first time ever, with 20-plus leading companies and over 90 engineers debating the 50W standard. Twice in one month--where the center of gravity sits is fairly obvious.
Q: How big is the in-car wireless charging market right now? Answer: it is growing faster than most people assume. According to research firm Counterpoint, global shipments of automotive wireless chargers grew 14% year-on-year in Q1 2025, with Foryou Multimedia ranking second worldwide at an 11.8% share. Electric vehicles now treat the wireless charger as near-standard equipment on the center console, and factory-fit adoption keeps climbing--this is no longer an accessory business, but an automotive-grade supply chain business.
Q: What does Qi2.2.1 (a.k.a. Qi2 25W) mean for that charging pad in your car? In one line: it goes from "charges" to "charges fast and holds tight." WPC released Qi v2.2.1 in July 2025, raising the maximum MPP magnetic charging power from 15W to 25W and mandating a built-in authentication chip for two-way verification. Everyone knows the old pain points in the car: a conventional three-coil pad delivers only 7.5W to an iPhone, so the battery drains while navigation runs; hit a speed bump, the phone shifts, and charging cuts out. A magnetic wireless charger uses a single coil plus magnetic attachment, solving alignment and vibration dropouts in one go--an iPhone can pull the full 25W, and so can Google's Pixel 10 and Samsung's S25 series.

For solution providers and buyers: automotive-grade certification is becoming the entry ticket to the factory-fit market. Whether it's module selection or full-unit design and customization, alignment with the new standard needs to start early, and production and sales schedules must factor in new requirements like authentication chips and two-way verification. Waiting until carmakers' tender documents state "Qi2.2.1 certified preferred" will be too late.
