In July 2025, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) officially launched the Qi2 25W version, raising the peak power of magnetic wireless charging from the original Qi2's 15W to 25W—about a 67% increase. In just one year, over 1000 products passed Qi2 certification; Apple iPhone 16 series and Google Pixel 10 Pro XL natively support 25W magnetic wireless charging.

For ordinary users, the most direct feeling is faster charging. Magnetic wireless chargers were often criticized as slow; now 25W already approaches wired fast charging, and iPhone and Android flagships basically max it out.

More crucially, Qi2's magnetic alignment (MPP) solved the old problem of traditional wireless chargers not charging when misaligned. The coil auto-snaps to the optimal position, making efficiency and heat more controllable. This is why magnetic wireless charging is now the industry's upgrade mainline, and wireless chargers overall are moving toward high power and high compatibility.

The domestic supply chain also plays an important role in this standards upgrade. In Q1 2026, a 50W high-power solution jointly submitted by domestic companies passed the WPC plenary vote and was included in the next-generation Qi2 draft standard, expected to go commercial around 2028. Wireless charging keeps climbing the 15W, 25W, to 50W path.

For wireless charger factories and brands, keeping up with Qi2.2 certification has almost become the entry ticket. The EU began mandating the EN IEC 63563 standard from 2026, leaving little room for non-compliant private magnetic solutions. When choosing products, look for Qi2.2 certification and 25W power, and you basically won't step on pitfalls.

Of course, high power also brings cooling challenges. Good magnetic wireless chargers have a built-in thermal chip that automatically reduces power when hot, protecting the battery and ensuring safety. When buying, don't just look at watts; over-temperature protection and foreign-object detection are equally important safety features.
