For years wireless charging has been capped at the 15W-25W tier, leaving the impression that it can only get so fast. But a signal has appeared in the WPC's draft standard: Chinese high-power solutions are being pushed toward the 50W class, which could lift the ceiling of next-generation wireless charging altogether.

What does 50W mean? Essentially it flattens the remaining perceptible gap between wireless and wired fast charging. Wireless used to suit overnight and fragmented moments; at 50W, the time it takes to finish a coffee puts a solid chunk back into the battery, and usage scenarios expand accordingly.

High power was never as simple as turning up the coil. Heat, efficiency and foreign-object safety all have to be re-engineered. That is why such solutions surface first as a draft standard - protocols and safety boundaries must be settled before manufacturers dare to mass-produce and users can charge without burning their palms.

For Chinese manufacturers this is a tangible opportunity. The discourse power over standards long sat elsewhere; with a domestic solution entering the draft, design, customization, manufacturing and sales can all track the frontier much more closely. Whether companies already building wireless charging products can ride this wave into high-power lineups is worth watching.
