Apple's fall keynote arrived on schedule. In the early hours of September 10, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max were officially unveiled. Beyond the 2nm A20 Pro chip from TSMC, a smaller Dynamic Island, and a 48MP variable-aperture main camera, the spec line that made wireless charging professionals pause was a quiet one: MagSafe 25W and Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, standard across the entire lineup.

For anyone building magnetic wireless chargers, that line carries real weight. Over the past few generations, 25W full-speed magnetic charging stayed exclusive to Pro models, while the standard and older models lingered around 15W or 20W. This time Apple bundled 25W MagSafe and Qi2 into its flagships, effectively telling the accessory ecosystem: magnetic, full-speed, and one unified standard is where things are heading.

Qi2 deserves its own mention. Built on the WPC's second-generation Qi standard, it bakes magnetic alignment into the protocol itself, letting Android devices and third-party accessories align precisely and deliver stable output just like MagSafe. With Qi2 across the entire iPhone 18 Pro line, a charger maker only needs Qi2 certification to serve both iPhones and a growing number of Android flagships, without having to choose between Apple's proprietary protocol and the open standard.

Wired charging is climbing too. The Pro series tops out at 45W wired, and paired with a USB-PD adapter it recovers a meaningful amount of charge within half an hour. On the wireless side, 25W magnetic charging with an official or third-party Qi2 pad tops up noticeably faster than previous generations. For manufacturers, the 45W wired plus 25W magnetic combination pushes fast charging to the limit on both tracks, forcing a new round of upgrades in thermal design, coils, and controllers.

In practice, if you already own a batch of Qi2 magnetic wireless chargers or magnetic power banks, they should be able to take full-speed magnetic charging on the iPhone 18 Pro, provided the product is genuinely Qi2-certified rather than just wearing a magnetic label. Real Qi2 comes with magnet alignment and foreign-object detection, which means better heat and efficiency. That certification line is exactly what to watch for when buying magnetic accessories from now on.
